Looking to stir up some thought and discussion on what is currently available in this particular realm. I have a set of Enve XCs already, and while they are phenomenal wheels, the value isn't really there anymore (if it ever was). Also, I'd like to keep them under $600 a rim. My list below reflects that.

I'm looking for a wide (24mm+ internal, at the least) 29er rim to build up as a new front wheel, or wheelset. Want to spread the tires out and maximize grip. I've seen a few good options out there, but looking to see what else I've missed.

1) Nox Teocalli 29er. 32mm OD/26mm ID. 385g, $479. Alternately, $660 laced to a 240 with Revs.
2) Chinese carbon 33/26mm asymmetric. $205 shipped, 420g.
3) Chinese carbon 35/30mm symmetric. $195 shipped, 420g.
4) Chinese carbon 30mm/24mm symmetric. $195 shipped, 395g.

Anything else out there?

Ryde trace trail. 25mm internal width 410g and alloy. In the u.k they are £70. Stiff too.

Think I might have found "the" rim:

I've purchased from Peter before, when he was with XMIplay. Good communication, fast shipping.

I've jsut built up some wheels with Velocity Blunt SS rims. They have an internal width of 26.6mm and weighed in at 403 and 405g (claimed 425!). Im still waiting for the frame arrive so cant comment on ride characteristics/durability yet.

I cant say the decals look very cool though and plain black wheels often bore me. vanity alone almost makes me wish id bought the Easton Arc 27's or 30's which while a little heavier, imo look better. But hey, my wheels are lighter so im not going to complain!

what would be the lightest hubs one should use for an XC build for 145lb rider?

http://www.curvecycling.com.au/collecti ... -ready-32h

25mm (390g) or 28mm (445g) internal width options. ~USD500 (prices in the link are AUD).

Very nice rims - I can attest to their strength and quality!

I'm 143lbs, and will be using 240s, but you could use Extralites, Tunes, etc.

Pretty much any hub would be fine at that weight unless you ride 'heavy'.
Impoverished weight weenie wanna-be!

Yes they are, but Curve have sourced and tested a lot of rims, partnered with the best factory they found, and stand behind their product with a warranty.

So, what makes them worth $699 a rim, as opposed to Nextie, Light-Bicycles, etc?

For the info of anyone thinking of Ryde rims (XC not Trail)... they are distinctly average. Way over claimed weight (when I queried it I got the reply "oh, yeah we have to beef them up a bit but have distributed any info yet"), awful at holding spoke tension for some reason, I'm knocking them out of true way too easily (and was very happy on Podium MMX rims on 26 for reference), the asymmetrical rims are a PITA for getting the tyre seated around the valve as there isn't a lot of space and the bead doesn't sit very securely and I have a few tyres blow off. Sorry for the rant :D
