Ok, tubes are 180g each. So if I go tubeless, that should save easy weight to go under 24 lbs. Tires are pretty close to weight (rear advertised at 640g, weighed at 660g for 2.2).

Ditch the XTR pedals for the Xpedo, there is another 100g.

Switch out to XTR cassette, that's another 100g.

Although the RS-1 is a little on the chunky side, not enough weigh loss to switch it out itself. Perhaps if I were to go bonkers with a new wheelset (and get rid of that gigantic SRAM predictive steering front hub requirement, it would be then worth it.

Stans NoTubes designed rims are a PITA, btw. Their "hook bead" technology makes getting tires on/off a total pain.

Since he says he's ready for mods, I would say he's got more cash to spend ;)

Next SL crank is next, then.

Was hoping to get it in the 23s easier...but the pedals aren't exactly super light. I was hoping to find a titanium axle for the XTR pedals but have not found one yet.

Have you looked into Xpedo pedals? They make a Ti pair that work with a SPD cleat and they're fairly cheap compared to most Ti pedals on the market.

Latest update, the move to tubeless...

I got a pair of Gredes aluminum tubeless valve stems and brought them to the bike shop to have tubeless installed on the Niner wheelset.

Now, the bike is 23.875 lbs. I just have to ride it now. :)

Oh yeah, BTW, the Rock Shox RS-1 fork sucks. I will never buy one again. The required SRAM predictive steering hub is a bandaid of a POS for a fork that is a terrible idea in the first place. I would rather have gotten a SID XX or a Fox product.

Uh, what is so bad about it?

I know plenty of people that love the RS-1.

Similarly, the SID XX is hardly the top of the heap.

Yes - curious as to your issues with the RS-1 fork? What fork do you consider better?

How do you have it tuned?

Again, I have not even ridden my Niner RKT 9 RDO yet and I already have passed judgement on the CRAPPY Rock Shox RS1 fork.

How can I say such ridiculousness without riding it yet? How about basic ownership itself? You can't reinstall the front wheel off without needing 3 pairs of hands and some sort of laser guided device to line the floppy dropouts up. As soon as you take off the front wheel, each fork leg flops to wherever they want like a penis on a 95-year-old man (without viagra, mind you). Try to line up each each fork dropout completely parallel with each other, at the same exact height is a near impossible feat. This is regardless if you push the lockout button remote or not.

Of course, try all of this WITHOUT butchering the CRAP out of the dropout because of the stupid SRAM predictive hub, which has huge serrated caps on both ends. Now I have a never ridden RS-1, with scratches in the black anodized dropouts, because of the stupid hub.

I'm so frustrated with this fork I'm ready to put it through a bandsaw into little pieces and send it into a box back to SRAM, and replace it with something else. Of course, this would require me to build a new front wheel first, to ditch the SRAM predictively terrible hub first. If I ever meet the person (or team) responsible for designing this fork, I don't even know what I would do. Probably something I would definitely regret.

Mind you, I haven't even ridden it yet.

Suggestions for a BETTER fork out there (does not have to be a SRAM product)?

Lefty. There, I said it. You don't even have to remove the wheel to fix a flat.

A Lefty belongs on a Cannondale IMO. On a bike like this I'd get Fox forks I think.

I'll swap you my SID World Cup for your RS1? I'm in Australia though so shipping will be a PITA. We'd probably have to swap wheel too (or just hub meaning we each have to dissasemble/rebuild wheel)!

Seriously though. You haven't ridden it. They're wonderful to ride.
There's always a learning curve with every new process. Practice/develop a method for removing/inserting wheel quickly/easiy and you'll love it.
When thru axles came out it was the slowest thing ever, people hated it, wouldn't buy a frame because it was thru axle. Now no one wants quick release because the ride benefits have been experienced and they've become familiar/fast/mindless with using the thru axle.

Just finished my custom RKT build with, yes....a lefty, kappius wheels, ENVE goodies, XTR brakes and a SRAM XX1 drivetrain. Currently weighing in at 21.5. Looking forward to some PR's this year with this gem.

I just finished my RKT9 large build. out of the box with tubes and xtr pedals it was 25#. yikes thats heavy for a $7500 bike. Glad I got it for 30% off!

First thing I did was sell the wheelset, fork, bars, stem and seatpost. Someone got a great deal for $1500.00
Then I took off the Guide brakes and the XT cassette.

new build:
my RS-1 fork from my Rocky Mountain Element @ 120mm
magura mt8 brakes/ashima rotors
30/35mm carbon wheelset with 28h bladed Pilar spokes, Hope 4 rear and Sram front hub
Maxxis Beaver 2.0 rear tire Maxxis Ikon 2.2 front tire
XO shifter and deraileur
X1 cassette 10/42
Absolute Black 28t oval chainring
KS Lev carbon 65mm dropper post
carbon one piece riser bars
SQlab 711 grips
unfortunately I couldn't ditch the remote for the rear shock.
Bike as built. 23.25 lbs / 10.54kg

could go lighter with Next crankset, XX cassette, lighter pedals, but lot of money for not much weight loss. Could go with SID WC carbon but the ride of the RS-1 is too sweet to give up.
