Niner RKT 9 ready for mods...
Moderator: Moderator Team
Just got my Niner RKT 9, ready to mod!
It started as their "4-star" build, but started changing parts right away. So it has the niner carbon wheelset, carbon handlebar, and Niner stem.
I've changed/added:
XTR rear derailleur/front shifter (was SRAM X0)
XTR pedals
KCNC foam grips (was Niner brand)
Syntace carbon seatpost/Specialized Saddle (was Niner/WTB...no weight savings, comfort/offset required)
Ti hardware on caliper mounting
A2 rotors/titanium hardware
Ti hardware on Niner stem
It is NOT tubeless at the moment. I do not plan to install the rear shock lockout remote.
It is 24.25 lbs as it is (it's a Medium). I have some brake hose to trim down a bit, but beyond that, not sure if there is much weight to take out of it. I was thinking about an XTR rear cassette (to lose over 100g), because I don't think I really need the 42t (it has a 32t front). Thoughts?

Niner RKT9 with XO1 is $7500 so OP either has plenty of money to spend on mods or is now flat broke
Since he says he's ready for mods, I would say he's got more cash to spend

I don't think you'll get it much lighter unless you do some serious upgrades, like wheels, and lighter seatpost/saddle/stem/handlebars... I'd leave it more or less as it is.

The wheels weigh 1525 g according to Niners website. That's not particularly light. Tubes might be heavy too... Converting to tubeless would be my first change.

As said before, the first thing to do is go tubeless. The second thing I'd do is get the bike heavier... with a Reverb dropper post
The added weight would pay back. This bike seems to be specced for serious descent (with those big tires), it's a shame to not have a dropper post here.

Next SL crank is next, then.
Was hoping to get it in the 23s easier...but the pedals aren't exactly super light. I was hoping to find a titanium axle for the XTR pedals but have not found one yet.

Will you measure your ikons width?
Wondering how the volume compares to raceking ss

You can find them on ebay UK
I have some in my XTR 980's and they work well. The loose ball bearings are a massive PITA though! Just buy some Xpedo M-Force 8 Ti instead. Lighter, better functioning, just great. £80... again on evilbay

I don't believe they make the RK SS in 29er size, so comparing it to the Ikon 29x2.2" is pointless. Different molds across different diameters produce different tires.
That said, there is a massive thread here on the RK SS 2.2 from a couple years back. It's a true, fat 2.2. The Ikon 2.2 is not.
