1X Drivetrain Chainguides - WHY Not use a Front Road Der?
I was thinking of using a road front der - old one - bend out the cage?
The MRP weigh about 80g so I think an old road der like Record carbon 10s would weigh less without the cable clamp/bolt
Could probably take out the cage bolt too?

Do you use a clutch rear der?

Definitely a FD will NOT work. If your drive train has a tendency to drop the chain then it will still do with a FD.
1/ As already mentioned the first thing to do is to use a Narrow-Wide chainring. This will prevent all chain drop initiated from the top of the chainring.
2/ Second thing to do is to use a clutched RD. This will prevent all chain drop initiated from the bottom of the chainring.
This should fix 99% of problems.
Then, if you have a very aggressive ride (lots of big drops, fast stone-garden...) a chain tensioner like the Bionicon c.guide eco is cheap, very light and will do the job without any downside.

awesome! clutch der and NW ring on the way
No drops on my main bike using a narrow-wide and a non-clutch rear.
No drops on my secondary bike using a road FD tweaked to suite and plain chainring (non clutch rear).

Impoverished weight weenie wanna-be!
