Formula R1 vs XTR M9000 Brakes?

Anyone have feedback on these?

Going to use them with Ashima Ai2 rotors - any issues?

I vote for xtr. I have both of them, R1 slightly lighter and may be better looking but xtr works much better.

I hate my R1s. It's probably because I haven't figured them out but they howl and growl with stock pads. They do stop superbly. The other issue I have is that I can't figure out how to adjust them wider. I've read the manual and don't see any way to accomplish that. The pads are super close to the rotor. One time I took the front wheel off and accidentally squeezed the brake. I couldn't put the front wheel back on without taking the pads off and pushing the pistons back in.

I searched various forums and found tons of folks with the same issues so I figured it wasn't me. I'm still riding them but I keep thinking about switching them for some XT brakes.

The formular r1 look almost identical to the hayes stroker. They have a spacer and shim device that's supposed to work well
