I've used hope, blackspire, absolute black, race face, shimano xtr, and wolftooth.

With Xtr980 10spd I used all other than xtr 9000 single ring. Race face was the worst, didn't notice much of a difference between the others. It was always the same though, as soon as the clutch would loosen, or if I forgot to turn it on, it was drop city.

With XTR9000 11spd I've only used the 9000 single ring and wolf tooth. I'd say the xtr9000 single ring was better than the race face, but not as good as the others.

FWIW I know people in areas where the trails are less demanding that don't have any drops whatsoever for full seasons.

Jaker, what cassette range extender are you running?

I have tried it with and without a clutch. I only found occasional drops on fast chatter type of trails. The bigger bumps and hits that I thought would be a problem were not. It was on a XC hardtail.

And how do you like the gearing and shifting performance? I'm thinking of buying their ST Xtender.

Shifting is just as good as Shimano. Gear to gear spacing is a bit wonky until you get used to it. I paired it up with a 32t oval ring from Wolftooth and also went from a 2x10 to a 1x10 so I threw many variables at the bike at the same time.

Jaker- how much weight did you lose converting from 2x10 to 1x10?

Agreed. The main advantage of the clutch is the chain slap prevention. Bike is much quieter with a clutch! Zen on the mtb trail...

Was thinking why not a stiffer spring instead of clutch mech?
Would be lighter...and simpler

You want to be able to disable it somehow. For instance when you want to remove your rear wheel.
