Hi

I want to upgrade my cranks to XTR m9020 with either the stock chainrings or a third party compatible chainring.

Will I experience issues running this crank with a 10 speed drivetrain (chain especially)

thanks

You will not have any issues with a 10 speed chain, other than slightly weaker chain retention over an 11 speed chain. But why not switch to the 11 spee chain? I've been running 11 speed chains on both my bikes (one is 2x9 and the other is 1x10) for the last 2-3 years.

What do you mean by chain retention?

Single front ring setups typically suffer from chain dropping. That's why there are so many different chain guides/retention devices, clutch rear derailleurs and the proliferation of "Narrow/Wide" chainrings. A narrow/wide ring with an 11 speed chain is like velcro on wool! I was riding 2x10 with an 11 speed chain and kept dropping the chain. I switched to a WolfTooth narrow/wide elliptical 32t and have not dropped a chain for a long time.
