Still awaiting my 8000 XT Grouppo. I still haven't seen a 1X Test of the new 8000 XT Grouppo. Shimano really don't want to go 1X. I think that they invested so much in the new FD that they want to stay 2X or 3X.

I'm think of buying the DT Swiss XD Conversion Kit for my 240's and putting a X1 10-42 Cassette for my MTB and CX races.
Use the XT Cassette to train on...

XT 8000 isn't competing with X01, pricewise it's competing with GX (GX with the cheaper crank option, even). You are not going to get XX1, XO1 or X1 at remotely the price of XT. Comparing the weights of XT and the higher end SRAM cassettes is only relevant if you're deciding whether or not to spend a boatload more cash.

That said, I do think there's now a space for Shimano to have another option between XT and XTR level 1x parts to give the rider some more choice on weight vs price, whereas SRAM could probably now lose either XO1 or X1.

Given the weight of the XTR cassette 11-40T is not very impressive, perhaps Shimano should come out with a superlight SL version around 260g to compete with XX1...
