Can't find the answer in the listings section so thought I'd ask here...

Have just built myself a light(er) weight front wheel as part of a new set, just fished out some rim tape I had (new) laying around and it came in at 40g which seems heavy, will be staying with tubed for now (tubeless once I've built the new rear so I can do them together) so what is a light option, or shall I just go getto using electrical insulating tape?

For info the wheel is an A2Z front hub (114g), Stans Alpine rim (320g), Sapim Race spokes with DT Swiss alloy nipples (plus two blue Sapim to highlight the valve as I was feeling like blinging them a bit), whole build is 630g, total cost (all new parts) was just over £60, or just under $100 for the Americans (yes I got lucky with the parts!).

Just use Stans yellow tape (or an equivalent - there are heaps as it's pretty generic reinforced tape). It's one of the lightest options apart from products like Rox/Veloplugs and with the Stans tape you won't have to redo it if you ditch the tubes.

Thanks, didn't realise Stans was so light, I'll see if the local shop has some otherwise CRC seem cheapest.

But works just fine. :)

It's not going to be far off that.
Very thin and pretty strong.

Yeah I'm going to get the 'hope hoops' tubeless kit which is cheaper than buying tape and valves seperately and comes with 2 bottles just enough for my first 2 inflations as well. As I have Stans Rims it seems silly to gamble on another rim tape (even though it will probably be fine) just to save a few pence.

Nice try, but the Hope Hoops kit IS the Stans yellow tape, so clearly you know nothing of the quality?

Pretty sure i posted photo showing rin taoe and wrights.

Lighgest is maxxis which comes with their flyweight (?) tyres.

Even lighter is cutting squares from duck tape, the cloth based type, just large enough to cover spoke hole. Use with inner tube so the tube presses on it to stop it moving. Done it to one wheel as an experiment over a year ago and not haf any problems... just to qualify, ive not ridden that wheel for a while.

Thanks, Stans came in at 5g/wheel so doing as you suggest to save 3g seems excessive!
