Does anyone know the rim weight of Mavic Crossmax SLR 29er?
Moderator: Moderator Team
I feel like I've looked everywhere to no avail. I was looking to compare my current wheelset (Mavic Crossmax SLR 29) to a new carbon rim. I wasn't sure what width to go with, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't heavier than my current setup.
Does anyone have an exact rim weight of the Mavics?
Thanks!

Is your idea to re-lace the mavic hub/spokes to a new carbon rim?
Or do you want to upgrade to a carbon wheelset?
Chris.

Why not weight the whole crossmax 29'' wheelset and go from there?
A bit wider carbon rim than crossmax can weight a little more (unless you go ax-lightness etc.), but is likely stiffer and you choose your own hubs/spokes.
Basically you can get a much lighter wheelset but for much higher price.

Yes that makes sense. What tires do you use now? Perhaps a change here can make all the difference? Do you use tubeless setup right now? Wider carbon rim will be more stiff and support the tire better for more traction.
You are not likely to save a lot of weight on rim alone. It is the few grams on the rim plus lighter spokes/hubs that will shave grams.
<1300g 29er wheelset is not a problem, it just costs a lot. Are you looking at carbon rims from e-bay etc.?

Bike is an Ibis Ripley, currently using a Rocket Ron in the Front and Spesh Ground Control in the rear both tubeless. I was looking at going with a 30 or 35mm wide carbon rim from either light-bicycle or Derby. I'm not over concerned about weight but I do race this bike so I wanted to keep at or under 1500g.
