Hi I have a 2014 Giant Anthem Adv 29er.

I want it to loose some weight. But dont wanna go to the extremes ;)

Partslist (roughly)

Medium frame.
Fox 32 CTD Performance FIT 15mm
Fox CTD Boostvalve Performance
XT Cranks
XT Shifter
XT Rear mech
XT Brakes
Funworks/sapim D-light/Crest wheels 1522g
Thunderburts
Hylix Carbon seatpost 160g
RaceFace N/W 38T
PaulWorks Chainkeeper
ESI RacersEdge
Ashima Ai2 180/160mm
Rest is pretty much Giant original...

Its a racebike pretty much, both XCO and XCM. So a bit of durability is nice ;)
Probably going for the XX1/X01

It will be expensive to shed a lot of weight from that bike I think. Maybe handlebar/stem is heavy, if it's Giant stuff. I'm assuming you're running a 2-ring setup. Maybe go 1-ring? I certainly like it. I'd go 1x11 if you use the bike for XCM and/or XCO with very steep/long climbs.

Otherwise I'd have to say wheels, but top of the line carbon wheels are expensive.

As stated above i run a raceface single up front. No problems so far, but im leaning towards 11s in the rear.. Handlebar is in the plan, but its hard to find a stem that fits with the Giant Overdrive2 steerer, 1,5" :(

And good light wheels is pretty darn expensive..

Sorry, I missed that. Replacing your brakes and shifter/rear derailleur will save a bit of weight, but not much. Depending on your weight you could get a 160 mm front disc.

I would rather put money aside for a light wheelset if I were you.

Other than that it's a solid bike I think.

Depending on your weight - no problems with 1300 grams 29er wheelset if you are not too heavy.

Hard to save some decent weight on your bike without spending some serious money. If you race I would focus on the wheels, maybe some ceramic bearings, tires and innertubes. Don't think you would save that much weight changing to xx1/x01 but it works really great!

Mine is now at 10,4kg, and it is possible to get it under 10kg easy, only heavy things now are the seatpost(thomson elite), saddle(sqlab611), and the brakes are not the lightest(xtr985) but its now bomb proof, and thats a little important, every 29 alloy fully under 11kg is very light

I have the 2014 Anthem Advanced 29er as well. Pretty well have swapped everything. For my stem i did the Giant SLR carbon stem with a Mt zoom bar that weighs in at 97 grams. Seat is a smud carbon and post is new ultimate evo. Wheels are Tune Prince/Princess built on Stan's Race Gold's that are 1259 grams. The drivetrain is set up with the race face ring as well. No guide, it has worked great. Sram X.X cassette and xtr rear derailleur. Brakes are XTR 987. Whole bike weighs in at 19.4 lbs in a large, which is what about 8.8 kg? I have been happy with it.

Probably going for the XX1/X01

If not going XX1/X01 perhaps consider XTR 11-36 cassette 272g, or 'Response' 11-42T cassette 267g.
(XT M771 11-36 cassette 335g, SLX HG81 11-36 cassette 367g).

The 'Response' 11-42T will save a handy 68g (or 100g) and provide almost the same wide range as XX1, but will only cost about $270(?)

I think we'd all agree that the wheels will make the biggest difference. Is there any specific reason you're still running a chain guide?

Dont know what you mean by running a WC fork, the RS Sid WC isn't a whole lot lighter if thats what you mean?
