Tune King / Kong hubs - opinions please!

Seriously considering a set of these hubs because they're light, a bit different (!) and appears they can be serviced at home.

There seem to be a few horror stories about the freehubs (I'll be using an XX1 type), but I was told alot of the issues have been fixed in the last year or so.

What are previous/existing users opinions?

I never had an issue with my Prince/Princess hubs.

Used King/Kong with XX1 all season on a AMbike without any problems. Really satisfied.

But serviced at home? Pretty hard to get the body off without Tune's extractor but you're right about it else.

i've never had a single issue with 3 or 4 sets of king/kong hubs from 2008 with tones of mud and kms on most of those. The Prince hub (rear) form 2009, howenver, failed in the freehub after 5 years of moderate use. i'd opt for Kong with rear hub therefore.

Hi There,

I've run king and kong and prince and princess on several bikes and they have been great. I would suggest that the issue Sandal from above had with the freewheel body failing has nothing to do with the hub being a princess rather than a kong. They both run the same freewheel bodies. (Although there is a Skyline freewheel body which is used on the Princess, but I would assume the additional machining that differentiates the Skyline freewheel body from the regular one was not the failure point).

You know both hubs have had an almost complete redesign since then?

yes, i know, they are different and still perfect. nevertheless, i'm cautios to try Prince again...
