I'm looking for a new seatpost to replace my ultra heavy one. What's the lightest (Or amongst the lightest) ones I can get?

Here are my requirements:-

1. NON Carbon fibre
2. Setback
3. 30.9mm
4. 350mm or longer

Let the recommendations flow & thanks in advance.

Thomson Masterpiece. Not everyone loves the look but its alloy and does the job.

+1 for Thomson Masterpiece

I'll even do a slight mod and use POP yokes in place of the stock upper clamp assembly.
That and titanium hardware.

I resently replaced my 2000 390 mm long ti moots post with a brandnew syntace post, my new superfly is slihtly lower than they old one i need all the lenght i can get. I had this moots post since 2000 right, the new state of the art syntace high flex post was 2 cm longer adn only 2 grams lighter andthe moots post is way more comfortable !
So i defintly say goti, lynskey makes a nice post or a lot less than tose colorado cowboys !!(;

Because my carbon one broke (Not because I fell off but rode while I was pedalling on the flats!) Not taking a second chance anymore.

Care to share what brand and model this was?

Sorry, but you're kidding yourself if you think it doesn't happen to metal

A tuned Thomson Masterpiece is the best option with your criteria as already mentioned. It is tough to even get a lighter carbon post without spending huge money, so the material becomes somewhat irrelevant. I have a 30.9 layback Masterpiece with SMUD carbon lower cradle, Ti bolts and POP yokes. Super solid and around 150g (can't remember exactly off the top of my head, sorry!). I'm selling it now if that is any use to you (based in UK) due to changing the frame and needing a new size. Just PM if interested.

Don't get me wrong. I own plenty of carbon stuff and most are fine but have broken only 3 items:-

1) Formula brake lever (My fault. Really big crash, went over the bar and my palm pushed against the lever really hard causing it to snap)
2) Smud saddle (Broke as I sat on it. Warranty was made horrendously difficult & I had to pay to get it fixed despite it being manufacturer's problem)
3) Smud Seatpost (Was riding a flat section when it suddenly felt sloppy. I got off to see a nice crack across the seatpost. Image

It doesn't really diminish my confidence in carbon products except that the financial & emotional losses are a little difficult to bear. Secondly I will choose more reputable carbon makers in future (Especially those who stand by their promise & integrity of warranty) but for now, I want something really strong & sturdy for my AM bike.
