Disc Brakes. Light weight but not crazy expensive.

I can't stand my XX disc brakes any longer and they are driving me crazy. Would like to get something that is fairly light but does not brake the bank.

Was thinking about some X0 black levers as they have been very good on my other MTB that I have but was just wondering if there is something lighter for around the same price.

Having gradually got more and more frustrated with the super narrow pad-rotor clearance on Formula R1's I switched to XTR and have never looked back. The M980 give away about 50-80g on the lightest R1 (calipers and levers only) but the increase in power/ ease of set up/ ease of maintenance and pad life is worth every gram. I can't stand faffing before a ride and XTR is the best option in my opinion to just get on with things and ride hard. I would also say I wasn't getting much pad life or much pad power out of my R1 because (besides the small annoying constant rubbing) they would get pretty hot on long descents and glaze the pad surface creating a nice smooth low friction surface to try and brake with! Others may not find this.

Basically, XTR! I paid about £200 for a completer F&R set new.

My old hope mono mini's are only 300g and after 7 years of abuse and minimal maintainence they are still perfect.

Hope X2 Race works great for me. Probably you can get a good price in the UK for the older Green Black version.

I always felt underpowered with Hope vs XTR or R1. They were also a little temperamental with sticky pistons but very few company's aftercare service beats Hopes- any spares you need they will pretty much send for free without going in to a long drawn out warranty process. Not convinced by the brakes but exceptionally great people to deal with.

How about paring up your new brakes with Ashima Ai2 rotors?

I liked the reviews online and just popped on a pair (still in the mail).

Already have the Ashima rotors on the bike and in true WW form have 3 ti and 3 aluminum bolts!
