If looking for a new project - why not order some nice parts from http://www.R2-bike.de and see if the claimed weight are true :-)

Extralite Taperhead 2 headset

Sram XX front derailleur (34.9mm, high mount, downpull)

KCNC Razor disc rotor (160mm)

Schwalbe Rocket Ron 29x2.1" tires

Sram XX rear derailleur with MSC alu pulleywheels (long cage)

FASI outer gearhousing with endcaps

Rock Shox SID XX World Cup 15 mm qr (uncut and without 15 mm axle)

Could actually be a nice project!

Nice start, I'm curious about the frame and wheels!

Thanks Martin - not going to be as light as your 29er for a start. Don't want to blow the budget if I don't like 29 - never tried it before.

I'm really surprised with the Schwalbe Rocket Ron tires - R2 did a good job getting the light ones :-P

I wouldn't bother with the KCNC Razor - I had them but found them lacking in stopping power - I replaced them with quaxar floating disc which are lighter but I find to have more stopping power. (mind you I was running 160/140 but now gone to 160/160)

I have been using KCNC Razor 160/140 mm for about 2-3 years and haven't needed any stoppingpower so far but I admit there's no big mountains where I ride :-)

Haven't tried the Quaxar floating rotors but only Hope and they suck - almost began to bend just looking at them hehe

Yes - very strange. I think I have bend 3-4 disc rotors (160 and 140 mm) and never had any problems with the Razors. I'm sure that you are rigtht about it's possible to get something with more power.

My SID XX WC 29, 15qr weighed 1575 uncut with axle.
It's a nice fork, I'm sure you'll like it!

I'm also using the razor and like them a lot. Tried Scrubs - not for me.

Mads, in order to choose the right path over to the dark side you should really get some nice wheels. 1800gm sloppy wheels destroys the feeling of a 29 IMO. What are you planning on running?

I have ordered some wheels with Novatec SL hubs (15mm qr front - normal rear), Sapim CX-Ray spokes and BOR XMD333 29 rims. They should be 1450 grams.

I could have gone lighter but think it's okay weight for a start.

My wheelset came yesterday - the weight is 1457 grams without rimtape and 1466,5 grams with. Novatec SL disc hubs, Sapim CX-Ray spokes and BOR XMD 333 29 rims.

Tune DC17 qr for the rear wheel:

Also had time to cut the fork:

Hoping that R2-Bike soon will stock the new Extralite stem +/- 12 deg.

Soon - just needing some bits but it's going to be around 8,3 kg for a start. I have ordered some tubeless parts so that will hopefully make it around 8.2 kg.
