Where to buy 27.5" wheels in Germany?
Moderator: Moderator Team
My gf has a Canyon Yellowstone AL 4.9 (27.5") which was a wrong decision for her own weight, so we are trying to make the bike lighter like the Grand Canyon AL SLX 7.9W model, which we can make the biggest difference by upgrading its heavy Alex EN24 + Shimano RM66 wheels.
The wheels they use for Grand Canyon AL SLX 7.9W are Mavic Crossride, but since we need 27.5" size and the bike is in Germany, we couldn't find many options.
After upgrading the wheelset, we will change the handlebar with a lighter and narrower one and the seat with a lady specific light one as well.
I already checked starbike, spent some time on ebay, bike24 but couldn't find.
Thought of buying light parts with deals and have a shop assamble the wheels but the service fees are so pricey, not a good idea.
Where we can find lighter wheelset at an affordable price in Germany?
Thanks.

What part of Germany? I used to go to a large shop in Manheim called http://www.zweirad-stadler.com/ They had a huge selection of parts. It was the biggest shop I went to in my three years in Germany.
in Leipzig.

My wheels from R2 Bike have been quite disappointing. Way over the claimed weight and the spokes have come comically loose after just 4 hours riding. No idea how they built them for that to happen as I've never had such a thing happen before. I've had to get them rebuilt as a result
TBH I usually treat mail order custom builds as a good way to get cheap parts. (Unless it's from a proper wheel builder, jra or someone)
It's very difficult to even get the parts for the price most charge for the complete build.
So an evening sat on the sofa with a couple of beers checking them over usually pays dividends.
(And occasionally uncovers some howlers!)

True, the price of the sum of the parts was good but R2 write a decent spiel about how they are quality wheel builders etc etc. I wouldn't expect a good build from someone like CRC but was mildly hopeful from R2. JRA and Clee Cycles have always built me good wheels I haven't ever had to touch so I got a bit complacent about an expensive wheel build

They've got a good advertising man? (But no good wheel builder!)DanW wrote: write a decent spiel about how they are quality wheel builders etc etc.
And the best non-specialist wheel build I've ever had was actually from CRC. Didn't have to do anything other than drink the beer!
