I'm thinking of getting some Tubulars but, I'm not sure if I should get a Rhino XL or a Fast Bird or maybe even one and one?
Looking forward to some opinions.

Need to know a few things first, such as:
- Are you exclusively using the tyres for XC racing?
- What terrain do you ride in, i.e. hardpack, wet/loose?
- What rims are you using?

-I will be riding Cross Country only.

-Where I ride it's usually dry, rocky, and hardpacked.

-I will be riding Drc tubolite rims.

Fastbirds. Just felt them, never tried. But used Rhino XL. The good thing with Fastbirds is that the thread are much wider than Rhino where you only have threads in the middle. Should be better for cornering, roots and more.

Do you think I should get a wider fastbird in the front and a thinner one in the back? Like a 50mm in the front and a 48mm in the back?

Dugast also makes tyres with a 3rd party thread on it. If you're really in doubt and know what tyres suit your riding the best I suggest giving them a call.

Yes, they do, but there could be a significant weight penalty. According to a Bike Mag test a while ago, they just cut off the sidewalls of the tires the customer supplies. What you end up with is an extra layer of casing. That layer is not there if you use Dugast's own tread, which is produced for the purpose.

I actually like the dugast thread. It's just that I don't know which one to use. There isn't really a problem with me since I'm a 100lbs/45kg and, I'm a pretty small rider. So, thin tires wouldn't be a problem.

why not use 48mm front and rear if you're that light? I'm 60kg and used 47mm Rhinos before, enough volume for me. Uses Tufo XC2 Plus at the moment as they came with the wheels I bought

We've been using a pair of Tufo XC2 plus tubulars and these have been good so far. They rolled very well over hard surfaces.

+1. I love all of my Dugast tires, but this isn't a road/track/'cross application. I had received my tubular MTB wheels from Tufo pre-glued with (of course) Tufo tires. I was not expecting to like them as much as I do, but they are fast and durable. What more do you want in an MTB tire?

Geoff,

I'm not really interested in Tufo, All I want is Dugast's white sidewalls on my bike!
So, it's pretty much Rhino XL or Fast Bird.
