Does anyone know is shimano has patented their design?

I am a personal fan of FRM, but is this legal?

its legal, cause shimano copied the design from a lot of other manufacturers. Bullseye had 2 piece cranks like 25 years ago (seriously) Sweet had 2 piece cranks with outboard bearings 10 years ago. This isn't a new design, and FRM isn't the first company to try to improve on shimano's design. Race face and FSA showed prototypes at interbike.

Any idea on the weight? I use the new xtr's and love the stiffness. I didn't think it would make a difference but it does. Converted a set to single speed as well
