We distribute Magura and most people just go for the MT8s or the MT4s....the MT6 are great but they right in the middle with very few improvements over the MT4 and with a little more $$$ you get the MT8 which it's a big improvment over the 4 and 6s

According to Magura - and the new article on the MTBR homepage; the only difference between the MT line is the weight. From my understanding, the only thing that sets the 8 apart from the 6 is the fact that its made of carbon, and saves some weight. In my mind, this is worth the $100; but I wouldn't call it a big improvement. Is there something I am missing?

You are basically right....The master cyclinder on the MT 2, 4 and 6 is made out of composite while the MT8 is carbotecture which is carbon. The lever on the MT8 is also in carbon. But as you mentioned it all comes down to lower weight. Our biggest seller are the MT4s and MT2s because they offer almost all of the improvements of the top end models with a small weight penalty. Of course when going all out then the Mt8 wins plus they look awesome.

I have the MT4s and unfortunately the weight is alot more than quoted. Actual is 740g for the full set including discs and hardware.

Also they use torque bolts all over it - not exactly multitool friendly.

Yet to ride but will report bk later!

Actually all the mt series brakes have carbon masters...
Mt 2 and 4 is made of wat magura calls carbotecture, while 6 and 8 are the higher spec carbotecture sl.
Mt8 has alu hardware and carbon levers. Mt6 levers are alu.
Mt 4 has the bat external reach adjust knob, while mt2 goes bare basics with simple 2 pc calipers and no banjo connection...

I personally have been riding the mt2, and have been quite happy with it, the only gripe I have had so far is the small or smaller pad clearance than the shimano brake system, which inevitably means more fiddling around to get the setup right...

i have ordered the XTR M987´s and i kind of don´t wanna let the LBS down by not buying them and instead going for the R1´s but how good are Formula brakes generally?
I have no experience of them at all so i know very little about them.
i Understand the R1´s are light very light but that´s about it :)
