Have these gained weight over the least few years? All the ones I'm seeing on Ali or eBay are 130g+ for 100, not 110g

Re: Advice needed
There's lighter options than DA, and several alternatives that are a similar weight. If you consider the brakes, R7000 are about 380g. With some exotic brakes, you can drop half your 400g goal right there. Many longer serving member on this forum know the chaos caused by Ted Ciamillo in the past, bu...

Re: Shimano Dura-Ace c24 teardown
I don't really understand why Shimano didn't force their 11 speed design to work on 8-10 speed wheels in the first place given the minimal machining required to make the 11 speed cassette fit. Maybe too much risk of derailleur/spoke collission? That is exactly the issue, most bikes won't have enoug...

Re: Campy Ultra Torque in a mountain bike BB shell?
Unfortunately, the days of a road BB shell simply being 68mm and MTB BB shell being 73mm are long gone - it's much more complicated than that. A perfect example of this is the cups you linked to, which are for a BB86 shell, which is often a road shell/frame. There are many different types of shells ...

Re: Headset Install Help...
My first thought was that the crown race may not be needed - some carbon forks are designed for the cartridge bearing to rest directly on the fork (eg Cannondale). In the pic though, the crown race and bearing are definitely not mating correctly. Check both these things and report back if you haven'...

Re: Weight weenie parts that actually worked!!!
Worked:
Heylight inline seat post
Heylight skewers
Didn't work:
Kestrel EMS bars (cracked at clamp after two minor crashes). Admittedly, they'd probably be fine without crash impact but I can't afford to go replacing bars all te time.

Re: rim tape - durable & light (not tubeless)
*snip* I saw your post after i ordered the poly green tape (2mil thick) I would try the 8898 next time but they come in limited widths so will try on my cross and mtn bike (8898 is 4.6mil) Thanks  My roll is much wider than 4.6mm, it only just fits in some older (narrow) road rims. I use t...

Re: rim tape - durable & light (not tubeless)
I use Scotch 8898 blue tape for both tubeless and regular "tubed" wheels. It seems good value (a lot cheaper than traditional rim tape like Velox) and I must have done 25+ wheels so far with this roll and it hasn't even looked like failing on anything. I've used it for BMX, CX, track, road and MTB. ...

Sounds like you've been pretty thorough already. Please post back and let us know whether the chainrings make a difference.

This sounds totally unacceptable to me - even if you're being "fussy", I think you have a right to be when purchasing such a premium product. Mismatched paint is a total joke. Pathetic that they would even consider it acceptable to sell frames like this.

Substitution is the easiest step to begin with. Borrow parts that are easy to swap and test like wheels, in particular.

Re: Minimum time required for a quality build
Wow, that's a long post - but I do those things too. I find it satisfying when hub logos line up through the valve hole. Just yesterday I repositioned a cable ferrule twice because I didn't like how the SRAM logo was positioned when I stood back and looked at the bike. My wife was shaking her head b...

Re: 11 speed cassette on 10 speed drivetrain??
Won't work. 11s isn't just an extra cog thrown on the end, the spacing is narrower. You'll get a few gears working in a row, the rest will be noisy or completely out of whack. You really need to change shifters/derailleurs/cassette/chain all at once. Unless using SRAM, as noted - their 10 and 11 der...

Re: For 1x, what could be my budget weight weenie brifters?
You could buy a pair and remove the inside parts of the left lever. I've done that on my CX bike as it was cheaper than buying a left brake lever and right shifter.
